Routine Cleaning and Maintenance to Entend the Life of Your Dometic RV Awnings

In comparison to other fabric awning designs, the Dometic RV awnings are more efficient and durable. But you have to consider some routine cleaning and maintenances to prolong its usability and lifespan. When you clean the awnings at regular intervals, you can easily prevent the built up of grime and dirt. Also, proper cleaning of the sheets will eliminate the growth of mildew.

However, the required maintenance and clearing measures will vary based on the materials of the awnings. As the RV awnings are normally made of vinyl or similar woven acrylic fabric, these needs to be cleaned in a specifically using a solution made of 1/4 cup of dish soap, 1/4 cup bleach, and 5 gallons of water.

Cleaning Vinyl Awnings

Prepare a mixture by adding 1/4 cup of dish soap and 1/4 cup of bleach to 5 gallons of water.

Extend the Vinyl awning completely. Use a clean sponge to apply the mixture on top of the awning. Now retract the awning and allow it to remain retracted for about five minutes. The process will help in applying the mixture on both sides of the RV awnings.

Keep the awning in an extended state and use a garden hose to rinse the entire awning. If you are not satisfied with the results, it is advisable to repeat the process of applying the mixture, and rinsing the awning.

Once the cleaning process is over, the awning needs to be completely dried up before being installed or stored.

Cleaning Woven Acrylic Fabric Awnings

The woven acrylic fabric awnings can be cleaned using a mixture made by combining 1/4 cup of dish soap, 1/4 cup of bleach and 5 gallons of water. However, the cleaning process has to be started by extending the awning.

After extending the awnings, use a garden hose to apply the mixture and rinse the fabric. But you must remain some amount of caution while cleaning the awnings and ensure that you are nit scrubbing the awning or touching the underside of the woven acrylic fabrics.

Once the awning is clean, allow it to dry complete. Now you can store the awnings or reinstall the accessories to get shade.

Both types of awnings need to be extended when they are still wet. Buy you must allow adequate time to the awning to become completely dry and prevent mildew formation.
